Crazy church made of human bones, + UNESCO World Heritage city

While traveling from Moravia to Bohemia I was able to stop for 2 days at the Sedlec Ossuary in Kutná Hora, Czech Republic, which is pretty much in the dead center of the country (no pun intended).

It is made up of over 50,000 human skeletons. Pretty bizarre – even the chandeliers and EVERything is actually made with real human body parts.

My photo didn’t come out, so here’s a wiki photo

I guess they have a thing for this kind of stuff – you don’t have to go all the way to Egypt to see mummies – they have a pretty good collection in Brno. I saw them too but didn’t take photos .

Kutná Hora is a pleasant little town – a UNESCO World Heritage site, so if you are in the area it is worth staying a night. Sedlec is actually a suburb of Kutna Hora, about 30-40 minute walk. The train station is in Sedlec actually, making it easy to visit just the ossuary, but it is definitely worth it to spend a day in Kutna Hora too. There is a well preserved old town, a very nice big old Gothic church (behind us below). There are also nice beergardens, of course, normal in the Czech Republic, and we ate pizza at a little Italian restaurant with a nice outdoor patio in the back and it was REALLY good. It also seemed like the kind of place with lots of stuff going on – there was a free concert in the town center and some other even in a big park below the city.
